Word Counter is a live writing analysis workspace for essays, articles, assignments, notes, speeches and everyday drafts. Paste or type your text and the key statistics update automatically without submitting or uploading your writing.

How does the word counter count words?
The primary word total counts non-empty text chunks separated by whitespace. This matches common everyday counting behavior, though an official platform may use its own rules.
Does the word counter update while I type?
Yes. Word, character, sentence, paragraph and time estimates update automatically as the text changes.
Can I count characters without spaces?
Yes. The dashboard shows total characters and a separate count with whitespace removed.
How are reading and speaking times estimated?
Reading time uses about 200 words per minute and speaking time about 130 words per minute as simple planning estimates.
